Helen Irene Ammann

Helen Irene Ammann, 74, of Frontenac, formerly of St. Paul, died Wednesday, August 5, 2026 at home.

On December 19, 1951, Tony and Helen (Pietrus) Ammann welcomed their ninth child, Helen Irene Ammann. Born in New Richmond, WI, Helen joined siblings Janis (Calbreath), Tony, Rita (Swanson), Jimmy, Susie, Frank, Mary (Odman), and Johnny. Still to come were George, Tim, Antoinette (Johnson), Duane, Robert, and Ted. Growing up in a large family and close to many cousins, Helen was never without companions or hand me down clothes. Learning to sew gave her the opportunity to make her own fashionable wardrobe. Learning to drive gave her some cherished independence. Helen's career as a stitcher brought her to wedding shops, Paisley Park, the Children's Museum of Minnesota, the Orpheum, and the Minnesota Opera Company. Family and friends enjoyed modeling her creations and were proud to see her craftsmanship on display on stages and in music videos. Her love of travel gave her opportunities to explore the land her great grandparents farmed in Switzerland. Her strong family ties brought her to purchase her home in St. Paul, in the same neighborhood her grandparents lived when she was a child. Helen's neighbors added joy and entertainment to her backyard and they, like her extended family, enjoyed the fruits of her garden and celebrating holidays. Helen loved being outdoors- in the woods, on the water, and even tromping through the snow. When she wasn't out exploring the world around her, she was likely lost in a book, learning history, solving mysteries, exploring science fiction, or teaching herself how to do more amazing things! Often referred to as "the cool aunt", her exquisite sense of style and passion for travel, music, baking, sewing, cooking, and gardening influenced generations of nieces and nephews. She hosted sleepovers, tea parties, trips to the zoo and the Como Conservatory, campouts, fondue dinners, movie nights, and beach excursions. She cared for the world around her and taught others how to do the same. Helen was intentional with her time, energy, and talent. When she shared her time with you, she may have provided a unique and delicious meal or an amazing baked treat that left you feeling like royalty. You probably learned something new, shared laughter and smiles, and now have a treasured memory. Helen's mortal life ended peacefully on Wednesday, August 5th, 2026, allowing her to join her parents, her sister Rita, and her brothers Jimmy, George, and Tim in Heaven's glorious garden. Helen wished for her family and friends to gather and celebrate her life and love simply- outside, with good food and beautiful flowers. 

A celebration of life will be 11 a.m. – 1 p.m., Saturday, August 29, 2026 at Brant and Brittany’s House: 166 State Rd 65 River Falls, WI 54022. Lunch and water will be provided. Feel free to bring any other beverages you would like. If you’re able, please bring a lawn chair. We look forward to being together to celebrate Helen’s life, share memories, and honor the incredible person she was.
