Helen Theresa Lillyblad, 89, of Red Wing died Friday, Sept. 26, 2014 at Mayo Health System of Red Wing. She was born on August 26, 1925 in Red Wing to Daniel and Mathilda (Staiger) Metzler. She graduated in 1943 from Central High School in Red Wing and then worked at the Republican Eagle in advertising. On February 2, 1952 she married Arthur Lillyblad in Red Wing. She was a member of the Church of St. Joseph, Red Wing Skating Club, Red Wing Country Club and the ABCD Club for St. Joseph's School. Her family recalls her love for gardening, bird watching, skiing, golfing and boating.
Survivors include two children, Jane (John) Kempf of Ham Lake and Paul (Anna) Lillyblad of Circle Pines; four grandchildren, Tony Kempf, Bridget Kempf, Matt (Anne) Lillyblad and Meghan (Dan) Burnstine; one great grandson, Zachary Lillyblad and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband on November 11, 1998; siblings, Florence, Daniel, Gertrude, Irene, Josephine, Margaret and Joseph.
Mass of Resurrection will be 11 a.m. Friday, October 3, 2014 at the Church of St. Joseph with Father Thomas M. Kommers officiating. Burial will be in the Oakwood Cemetery. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service. Memorials are preferred to Mayo Red Wing Hospice or to the church.
