Henry Richard Dison was born on May 17, 1933, in Rochester, Minnesota, to Henry H. and Gladys Mae (Tuttle) Dison. He was called to his eternal home on June 28, 2025, in Virginia Beach, Virginia.
Henry grew up in Rochester, where he attended public schools and graduated from Rochester High School in 1951. A gifted athlete, he was a proud member of the state champion tennis team in both 1950 and 1951. He continued his education at the University of Minnesota, where he lettered in tennis, and later transferred to Mankato State University, earning a B.S. degree in education while also lettering in tennis there.
On August 27, 1955, Henry married the love of his life, Janet Nelson, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Rochester—a marriage that flourished for nearly 70 years. He began his teaching career in Hayfield, Minnesota, and in 1962 moved to Lake City, where he taught mathematics and coached several sports. When a tennis team was later established at the school, he proudly took on the role of coach.
A man of deep faith, Henry was an active and devoted member of Bethany Lutheran Church in Lake City. Over the years, he served faithfully as an elder, financial secretary, and as a member of numerous boards and committees. Known for his sincerity and warmth, he was often asked to offer prayers at gatherings and events.
Henry is survived by his beloved wife, Janet, and their three children: Rick Dison (Mary) of Columbus, OH; Sue Wydler (Charles) of Virginia Beach, VA; and Jane Carroll (Pat) of San Diego, CA. He is also survived by five grandchildren: Amy Borghese (Tony) and Tim Dison (Anne) of Columbus, OH; Kenneth Wydler (Andrea) of Virginia; Senior Airman Ryan Wydler of Tucson, AZ; and Alexis Arden (Blake) of Virginia Beach, VA. Henry cherished his four great-grandchildren: Kaylee and Zachery Borghese, and Jensen and Grayson Dison, all of Ohio.
