James E. Mallon

James Elmer Mallon, 81, of Red Wing, died Sunday, November 26, 2023, at his home surrounded by his loving family.  He was born on September 23, 1942, in Red Wing to Elmer and Vivian (Baez) Mallon.  He graduated from Red Wing High School in 1961.  On December 14, 1963, he was married to Renee Madison in Avoca, Minnesota.   During his career he worked as a mechanic or in maintenance at Red Wing Sewer Pipe, Arnie Charlson Construction, Meyer Industries and for 15 years at Flint Hills Resources in Rosemount prior to his retirement.   He was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church.  James enjoyed doing mechanical work, duck hunting, fishing, going to drag races, watching hockey and camping.  He restored a 1949 Chevrolet that he was very proud of and his family recalls his love for coloring and attending his children’s and grandchildren’s activities.

James is survived by his wife, Renee of 60 years; three children, Dana (Brian) Walker, Lisa (Troy) Nystuen and Wade (Michelle) Mallon; nine grandchildren, Adam (Dana) Nystuen, Nathan Walker, Bryanna (Michael) Cole, Derek Mallon, Zack (Kaitlyn) Schutz, Jason Nystuen, Lucas Mallon, Noah Schutz and Emily Mallon; one great granddaughter, Lyla Cole and two siblings, Patricia (Andrew) Dodge and Dean (Becky) Ellefson.  He was preceded in death by his parents.

Memorial service will be  2 p.m. Thursday, November 30, 2023, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church with Reverend Bill Klavetter officiating. Burial will be at a later date at Oakwood Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday, November 29, 2023, at the Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel and at the church for one hour prior to the service.  Memorials are preferred to St. Croix Hospice, St. Paul’s Lutheran Church or donor’s choice.
