James Edgar Miller, 83, of Red Wing, died Monday, May 13, 2024 at Deer Crest. He was born October 2, 1940, in Red Wing, to Alvin and Lillian (Steffenhagen) Miller. He grew up in Frontenac, Red Wing and the family farm in Lake City. In 1963, he was drafted into the US Army and upon returning to Red Wing, he bought his first home on Rose Ave., where he lived for over 50 years. During his life, he married twice and was blessed with eight children. Jim attended school at DeVry University and received a degree in electronics. He worked for Red Wing Shoe Company, Central Research from 1966-1992 and he owned and operated Miller TV’s for 37 years. He also owned the Red Wing Dairy Queen for a few years. Jim was a member of First Lutheran Church, Leo C. Peterson American Legion Post #54, the Sister Cities Commission and Pheasants Forever. He enjoyed playing cards, especially euchre, and he also loved to travel.
He is survived by his children, Brenda Holland, John (Stacy) Miller, Michele (Cy) Ross, Chris Miller, Tanya Nibbe, Matthew (Janet) Smith, Jason and Jennifer Miller; 13 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren and 4 siblings, Leonard (Carol) Miller, Jean (Bob) Bateman, Ruth (Doug) Dankers and Elaine (Danny) Ahern. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Dennis Miller.
Memorial service will be 11 a.m. Friday, May 17, 2024, at First Lutheran Church with Rev. Quinlan Koch officiating. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Thursday, at Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel and for one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery. Memorials are preferred to the Leo C. Peterson American Legion or the Parkinson’s Foundation.
