Funeral services for Jane Leonard will be held Saturday March 11th at 10:00 AM at Midwest Bible Baptist Church at 5930 Bandel Road NW in Rochester. The Rev. Caleb Hanson will officiate. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will follow the service at Oakwood East Cemetery in Rochester. Mrs. Leonard, 67, of Rochester, died Friday March 3, 2023 at her home following a lengthy illness. For those who will be unable to attend the service but would like to see the service as it is happening the service will be livestreamed on Midwest Bible Baptist Church's YouTube page.
Jane Lassiter was born May 16, 1955 in Gates County, North Carolina the daughter of James and Maude (Piland) Lassiter. Raised in Gates County, she graduated high school in Suffolk, Virginia. On June 15, 1974, in Suffolk, she was married to George Leonard. Jane was a nurses’ aide and also worked in providing home health care until her retirement, which was due to health concerns. She and George moved to Rochester in 2015 and have resided here since. Jane was a member of Midwest Bible Baptist Church where she remained active until her declining health prevented her from her endeavors there.
She is survived by her husband George Leonard of Rochester; a daughter, Sarah Jane (Scott) Lazer of Rochester; a son, William Allen (Jessica) Leonard of Akron, Ohio; 8 grandchildren; and two sisters Alice May Lane of Suffolk, Virginia, and Susie (Merrill) Lamb of Hobbsville, North Carolina.
Jane was preceded in death by her parents, James and Maude Lassiter; two brothers, James Lassiter, Jr., and Bobby Ray Lassiter; and a sister Nancy Byrd.
If so desired, and in lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Building Fund at Midwest Bible Baptist Church.
