Janet Louise Erickson, 89, of Red Wing, died Wednesday, August 20, 2025, at her home, surrounded by her loving family. She was born September 13, 1935, in Hopkins, Minnesota, to Harvey and Louisa (Erickson) Petersen. She graduated from North Branch High School in 1953 and on January 31, 1954, married Dennis Erickson. They lived in Minneapolis and moved to Red Wing in 1962, where they raised their family. Janet attended nursing school and became and LPN and worked at St. John’s Hospital. Janet and Dennis enjoyed traveling in their retirement and made annual trips to horse races in Kentucky. After Dennis died in 2005, Janet kept busy volunteering at the Red Wing Food Shelf and the Correctional Facility, and she was active with the Red Wing Senior Center and was a member of First Lutheran Church. Janet enjoyed going to the casino, dining out, playing cards and knitting. She was a voracious reader and loved being with her family.
She is survived by her children, Deb Drotos, Vicki (Jack) Platts and Wendy (John Rohan) Erickson all of Red Wing and Clete (Amy) Erickson of Savage; grandchildren, Isaac (Jill) Rohan, Joe (Jenna Olson) Drotos, Ellie (Court Reed) Rohan, Emily Platts, Abe (Jenivive Villavisencio) Rohan and Abby (Todd Nelson)Rohan; great-grandchildren, Elijah, Knox and Nova Rohan and Arlo and Lida Drotos and a sister, Jean Fairbanks of North Branch. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Dennis; an infant son, Jack; sister, Judy Johnson and son-in-law, Paul Drotos.
Memorial service will be 1 p.m. Thursday, August 28, 2025, at First Lutheran Church with Reverend Quinlan Koch officiating. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service. Memorials are preferred to First Lutheran Church or the Red Wing Food Shelf. Arrangements handled by Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel.
