Janice Rose McDonough

Apr 13, 1942 — Aug 8, 2026

Mazeppa

Janice “Jan” Rose (Jansen) McDonough, 84, of Mazeppa, MN, passed away unexpectedly on August 8, 2026, at her home. She was born April 13, 1942, in Chili, WI and was the 7th child of 9. Her Father operated a Bucyrus Erie dragline digging ditches around SE WI and northern MN, so the family moved often to new job sites. Her Mother raised the kids and worked in many kitchens along the way being known for her delicious bakery items.

Jan moved from Gully, MN to find work and be near her older sister Carol and her family in the Minneapolis/St. Paul area where she met George Beckman. They married, had 3 kids and shortly after the marriage was annulled.

Later the family moved to Rochester, MN to be near her younger sister Ruth and her family and took a job with IBM. She married Howard McDonough in 1983, who owned Mac’s Park Place Campground in Mazeppa, MN. She worked at IBM and retired after 23 years to work side by side with Howard at Mac’s. The family had several holiday dinners, weddings, and other gatherings at Mac’s because Jan and Howard couldn’t get away and it was large enough for everyone.

Jan and Howard enjoyed spending winters in Donna, TX at Palm Shadows Resort, a tradition they continued for 16 years. She regularly attended Pax Christi Church in Rochester, MN and was the instigator of several family gatherings. She kept her mother’s recipes alive through her cooking and baking. She enjoyed casinos, pull tabs, crossword puzzles, reading and collecting a variety of yard art.

She is survived by her husband Howard McDonough; 3 children Cynthia (Neal) Roberts, Chris Beckman (Margie), Kevin (Nikki) Beckman. 4 grandchildren Cami (Koty), Skylar (Brandon), Collin and Ally. 5 soon to be 6 great grandchildren Dominik, Koty Jr, Louis, Violet, Ronin and Kora Rose. Siblings Harvey (Ida) Jansen, Carol Brusoe, Ruth (Pat) Baune. 2 stepsons Roger McDonough and Pat McDonough, 7 step grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.

Jan was preceded in death by her mother and father Evelyn and George Jansen and 5 siblings.

Jan and Howard love animals and have had several dogs that got to spend the later part of their lives with them. Bailey just passed a few days before Jan did and that may have been what broke her heart.

In lieu of flowers the family is requesting donations to Paws and Claws, 3224 19th Street NW, Rochester, MN 55901.

A memorial service will take place on Thursday, August 13, 2026 at 2:00 p.m. at Mahn Funeral Home, 1475 Jefferson Drive, Zumbrota, MN with Father Shawn Haremza presiding. Burial will be held at a later date.
