Jay Austin Brewer, 69, of Zumbrota, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family at his home. He was born in Los Angeles, CA, on November 16, 1954, to Ray and Christina (Ebbert) Brewer. He grew up in Michigan and enlisted in the United States Army, serving from 1973 until his honorable discharge in 1978. While in the military, he met a fellow soldier in Germany, named Rebecca Bruske, whom he would soon marry. Jay and Becky were united in marriage on July 7, 1978, in South Carolina. After their discharges, they moved to Minnesota and made their home in Zumbrota. Jay worked for Mid-America Dairymen, Lincoln Suppliers, and then Malt-O-Meal, where he retired from in 2017. He was a member of the VFW Post 5727 Stary-Yerka of Zumbrota. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping with his grandchildren, reading, sitting on his front porch, and an occasional dice game.
He is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Becky Brewer of Zumbrota; two children, Daryl (Shawna) Brewer and Maggie Brewer both of Zumbrota; grandchildren, Blake and Hayden Brewer, Emily Blakstad, and Elliot and Rylee Danberry; brother, Jeff Brewer of TX; brother-in-law, Rick (Lynette) Bruske and Lorena (Dennis) Fenske; and nieces, nephews, and cousins in Michigan.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his father-in-law, Loren Bruske; mother-in-law, Dorothy Luhmann; and brother-in-law, Ronald Bruske.
No services will be held in accordance with Jay’s wishes. In lieu of a celebration of Jay’s life, the family would like for you to please share your memories of Jay with friends. Memorials are preferred to the Zumbrota VFW Post 5727 Honor Guard. Arrangements made by the Mahn Family Funeral Home, Larson Chapel in Zumbrota.
