Joan Helmer, 93, of Red Wing, died Saturday, October 5, 2024 at her home at St. Benedictine – The Villa in Red Wing.
She was born August 6, 1931 in Red Wing to Frank and Myrtle (Dahl) Mischke. She grew up in Red Wing and graduated from Red Wing Central High School. Joan married Kenneth Helmer on October 29, 1954 at First Lutheran Church in Red Wing where she was a life long member.
Joan loved dancing, reading, baking, and traveling.
She is survived by her children; daughter, Deb (Dennis Speetzen) Cemensky; son, Bryan (Lynette) Helmer; grandson, Curtis (Breanna) Helmer; great-grandchildren, Devin Hofdahl and Oliver Helmer; sisters-in-law, Darlene Anderson and Marilyn Schroeder; as well as nieces, nephews, other family and friends.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Ken; brothers, Virgil Mischke and his wife Beverly and Gerald Mischke and his wife Helen; sister, Francis Galvin and her husband, Marvin; son-in-law, Joe Cemensky; daughter-in-law, Melinda Helmer; in-laws, Leon Helmer, Millard Anderson, Darold and Edna Helmer and Larry Schroeder; and her parents.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m., Wednesday, October 9, 2024 at First Lutheran Church with Rev. Quinlan Koch officiating. Visitation will be 4-6 p.m, Tuesday, October 8, 2024, at the Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel and one hour prior to the service at church. Burial will be at Trenton Cemetery in Hager City, Wisconsin. Memorials are prefered to First Lutheran Church.
