Joan Audrea Larson, 84, of Red Wing, died Sunday, May 4, 2025, at Deer Crest, where she had recently moved. She was born February 4, 1941, in Winona, to Weston and Clara (Redmann) Larson. Joan shared good memories with her siblings, such as ice skating in the street after winter storms, singing while doing the dishes, and cheering at her brothers’ hockey games. She was especially close to her Grandma Laura. Joan graduated from Winona High School and then worked as a medical secretary. On November 5, 1966, she married Keith Larson. They moved to Red Wing in 1970, where they raised their family. Joan was active at First Lutheran Church, where she sang in the choir for over 25 years and served on the altar committee, the green team, and as a lector scheduler. She was a past member of the Mrs. Jaycees, enjoyed her weekly bowling team, and later worked part-time at Menne’s Jewelry. Joan cheered enthusiastically for her kids at their sporting events and worked hard to make holidays special with homemade lefse, rosettes, and krumkake. She always had a novel to read and kept her binoculars nearby so she could identify her beloved birds. She loved to listen to their songs and the melodies of her wind chimes.
She is survived by her son, Kevin (Lori) Larson, daughter, Maren (Matt) Schneider, and three grandsons: Nathan Larson and Adam and Micah Schneider. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Keith in 2023, two brothers, James and Richard Larson, and a sister, Lois Neitzke.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday, May 31, 2025, at First Lutheran Church. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel, will handle the arrangements.
