Joel “Joe” Larry Dahling, 83, of Red Wing, died Friday, May 15, 2026.
He was born July 10, 1942, in Red Wing to Edward and Edna (Schultz) Dahling. As the youngest of four siblings, Joe grew up and worked on the family farm in Belvidere. He met the love of his life, Linda Lue Collinge, at a dance when he was 14. Joe and Linda were united in marriage on September 8, 1962, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Red Wing. They raised four daughters they affectionately called the “The Four J’s” in their home of 60 years on Grandview Ave. The hardest moment of Joe’s life was when his 16-year-old daughter, Janene, died in a car accident on May 27, 1988. He adored his family, his grandkids were the light of his life. Joe excelled at woodworking, which was a skill he picked up from his grandfather. He went on to make doll houses and rocking chairs for his beloved grandchildren and ended up making his own beautiful oak wooden urn. Joe was an avid outdoorsman, particularly with fishing and deer hunting. He spent many weekends with his family at his cabin on Lake Wapogasset in Amery, Wisconsin, and winters with Linda in Orange Beach, Alabama. During the highs and lows of his life, Joe proudly owned and operated Joe’s Mobil Gas Station for 40 years, until his retirement.
Joe is survived by his loving wife, Linda (Collinge) Dahling; children, JoLynn (Greg) Fleming, Jill (Peter) Badker, and Jennifer (Jake) Luhman; grandchildren, Nathan (Julie) Fleming, Lucas (Jenna) Fleming, Alyssa (Al) Newborg, Shane (Becca) Fleming, Megan (Matt) Seehausen, Matthew (Carolyn) Badker, Shelby (Micah) Wyatt, Hayden Luhman, and Hunter Luhman; great-grandchildren, Brett, Makayla, Jackson, Ella, Greta, Ely, Mason, Lydia, Madelyn, Millie, Oliver, Owen, Ethan, Savannah, and Riley; and brother, Dean. He is preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Edna Dahling; sister, Ardys Limbert; brother, Lyle Dahling; and daughter, Janene Dahling.
A memorial service will take place at 11am on Friday, May 22, 2026, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Red Wing, with Rev. Amy Larson officiating. Visitation will be held an hour prior to the service. A burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery in Red Wing. Memorials are preferred to the Alzheimer’s Association. Arrangements made by Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel.
