John Oliver Barseth, Jr., 84 of Rochester, passed away at his home on November 14, 2023. He was born February 11, 1939, in Grand Forks, ND, to John and Lillian (Blake) Barseth. He spent his first younger years in East Grand Forks, MN. His mother and John moved to a farm outside of Kennedy, MN while he was still pretty young. He got a good taste of farm work while going to school in Kennedy, MN. His taste of farm work made him decide to try something else. He had several different jobs over the years but being a Barber became his main job. Had a shop in the Twin Cities, then needed a change and took a position with "Haskell's" and they sent him to Rochester in 1982, where he met his current wife, Paula. They recently celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary. John got back into the barber business shortly after they were married. Growing up at the north end of the state-only about 60 miles from the Canadian border John acquired a passion for fishing and hunting.
He is survived by his wife, Paula; children Brad (Lisa) Barseth, Sheryl (Bruce) Van Etten; grandchildren, Kaley & Mason Barseth, Alyssa & Cody Van Etten-all of which are from Illinois.
John was preceded in death by his parents and step-father Roy Carlson.
