John Herman Meyer

May 3, 1935 — June 14, 2026

John Herman Meyer, 91, of Pine Island, died Sunday, June 14, 2026 at his home.

He was born May 3, 1935 in Rochester to Herman and Irene (Riess) Meyer. He grew up in Pine Island and attended a one room school house before going on to graduate from Pine Island High School, class of 1953. Following graduation he went to work on his family farm. He also stepped in to help on other farms by driving milk truck or custom baling hay as needed.

On April 10, 1968 he was united in marriage to Arlene Lenort at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Pine Island. Shortly after they married, they purchased the family farm from John's parents. Together they made their home on the farm where they would raise their 6 children.

John was a jovial guy with a great sense of humor. He loved good natured teasing and made sure everyone got a unique nickname. He had a solid work ethic and he made sure to provide for family. He enjoyed life on the farm and passed that love onto his children and grandchildren by giving them bucket tractor rides and surprising them with new calves.

He enjoyed watching sports and going for Sunday drives. He also enjoyed the occasional trip to the casino.

While it might have taken John some time to warm up, he was always welcoming and enjoyed getting to know people.

He will be missed by many, including his wife of 58 years, Arlene; 6 children, Harvey (Carrie) Meyer of Byron, Cindy (Guillermo) Tellaeche Ramirez of Pine Island, Wanda (Frank) Forbes of Plymouth, Randy Meyer of Pine Island, Becky (David) Radtke of Mazeppa, and Ben Meyer of Shippensburg, Pa.; 6 grandchildren, Brooklyn Radtke, Will Radtke, Toluca Tellaeche Ramirez, Tahnee Tellaeche Ramirez, Jaliena Forbes, and Alexia Forbes; step-grandchildren, Chelsea (Tim) Dropps and Mackenzie (David) Schutter; and 5 step-great-grandchildren, Landon Dropps, Wyatt Dropps, Emmet Schutter, Cy Schutter, and Archer Schutter; and one sister, Barb (Keith) Fletcher of Boulder, Mont.; as well as other family and many friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Herman and Irene; siblings, Stanley and Joan (Marlin) Wobig; and an infant grandson, Nicholas Radtke.
