Joseph Henry Blomme passed to his eternal reward on Friday, October 31, 2025. He was born on May 11, 1945 in Marshall, MN to Raymond and Elsie (DeSleer) Blomme. Joe graduated from Central Catholic High School in Marshall. He earned a BS degree in Elementary Education from Mankato State University. Joe taught sixth grade at St. Phillips Catholic School in Litchfield, MN. He worked for the Red Wing School District where he taught sixth grade and did custodial work. He earned a Masters Degree in Education from Winona State University.
On June 16, 1973 he married Kathleen Solmonson at the Church of St. Joseph in Red Wing. Joe and Kathy loved to travel and drove throughout the United States from San Francisco to Key West, FL. They enjoyed attending concerts in Las Vegas, the sun and sand in Florida, and visiting Memphis, TN. While at a Tony Orlando and Dawn show in Las Vegas, Joe was selected to go up on stage with them where he danced and answered questions to the delight of the audience. Tony Orlando told Joe, "You made everybody happy."
At an art workshop at the Minneapolis Institute of Art, he participated in an activity by being spokesperson for his group where he identified a picture in their packet as reminding him of Johnny Cash. The whole room erupted in laughter.
Joe was an active member at the Church of St. Joseph. As a lector, he proclaimed the Word of the Lord, he was a Neighborhood Group Leader, bingo assistant, and always faithful to attending Mass. Joe helped many people.
Joe loved all sports. He played racket ball at the YMCA. He enjoyed playing pool, swimming, ice skating, and dancing. Joe liked watching sports on TV.
Joe is survived by his wife Kathy, sister JoAnn Makovec (Ivan), and many cousins, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Lorraine Lozinski, brother-in-law Ron Lozinski, niece Cathie Barton, and his beloved Yorkie, Monet.
Mass of the Resurrection will be at 11:00 AM on Friday, November 7, 2025 at the Church of St. Joseph in Red Wing with Rev. Roger Hessian officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to Mass. A luncheon will be held in Holy Family Hall. Joe will be buried at St. Mary's Cemetery in Beardsley, MN. The family requests no food.
