Joshua Wesley Moechnig Jr.

March 14, 1991 — June 24, 2025

Lake City

Joshua Wesley Moechnig, age 34, of Lake City passed away Tuesday, June 24, 2025 in a farming accident. He was born March 14, 1991 in Lake City, MN to Joshua, Sr. and LuAnn (Evans) Moechnig.

Josh graduated from Lincoln High School in Lake City in 2009. He was united in marriage to his wife, Heather Marking, on September 24, 2016 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Lake City.

Josh was living his dream by working on his family farm, alongside his father, carrying on the family’s legacy. He was a hard-working, loving and kind husband and the best daddy anyone could ever ask for. His faith, family, farming and friends were very important to him. His passions included spending time with his wife, Heather, and his children; woodworking; taking care of his animals - and some Heather surprised him with too; gardening; playing Farming Simulator on his X-Box; and the many camping trips with their close friends – just sitting around the bonfire discussing our kids, life goals and, of course, several shenanigans.

He enjoyed his morning coffee at home after milking, making breakfast for the kids, lending a hand with the dishes, and spending some time playing tractors with the kids before he headed off to finish his daily farm chores. At the end of the day, when he was finished milking the dairy cows, he would hurry home to spend time playing around and wrestling with the kids and would always end the evening reading them a book, or five, using every accent imaginable to put them to bed.

Josh especially enjoyed tinkering - whether that be equipment such as wind turbines or solar panels; growing trees from acorns - leaving Heather to find random seeds around the house, especially in the washing machine; hatching out baby chicks for the kids (including the 150 eggs Heather found in incubators just this week). Josh was always up to something, and Heather usually found out after the fact or stumbled upon something and had to ask ‘what is going on here’? Josh always liked to keep busy, and never seemed to run out of energy. He was always up for completing a project for Heather, even if it wasn’t on his personal agenda.

Josh will be remembered for his patient, mild-mannered demeanor, lively sense of humor, and the good-natured smirk he carried around on his face. He was one of the most unselfish and happiest people around. Many people have commented that never once had they seen Josh in a bad mood, and if he was, he did a good job of hiding it.

Josh is survived by his wife, Heather; his four children, Eleanor, Harvey, Hallie and Kelby; his parents, Joshua Sr. and LuAnn (Evans) Moechnig; two sisters Emily (Alan) Miller and Alison (Austin) Weix; and Jake Evans, a cousin who was more like a brother; paternal grandfather Wesley (Julie) Moechnig; father and mother in-law Brian and Sheryl (Harvey) Marking, brothers-in-law Nolan Marking and Bradley (Carissa) Marking; grandparents in-law Larry and Linda Harvey; nieces and nephews: Beau, Kinley and Sophia Marking; Eva, Karl, Cade and Rhett Miller; Wesley and Matilda Weix. Josh is also survived by many aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Josh was preceded in death by maternal grandparents Louis Evans and Diane Bauer; and paternal grandmother Janice Sprick.
