Joyce (DeBoom) Silk of Lake City died Monday February 13, 2006 at the Lake City Nursing Home. Joyce was born in O?Brien County, Iowa on November 28, 1936 to Marienus & Eunice (Miller) De Boom. Her family farmed in Iowa and moved to Avoca, MN in 1941. Joyce graduated from Slayton, MN High School in 1954. She then attended Mankato State University and received a degree in education. Joyce taught elementary school in Walnut Grove, MN for two years. She then went on to teach in the Mounds view, MN school system for 33 years. In 1992 she retired from teaching. Joyce married Richard Silk in Edina, MN on May 6, 1977. They enjoyed vacationing in Hawaii and later spent many winter months in Nalcrest, FL. Joyce and Richard were residents in South Minneapolis until their move to Lake City in 1996. They thoroughly enjoyed watching Eagles, barges and, other activities on Lake Pepin. Richard died November 28, 2002. Joyce was diagnosed with cancer in April of 2005. Joyce is survived by she is survived by her mother Eunice DeBoom of Fulda, MN; four brothers Kermit (Marilyn) DeBoom of Lake Mills, WI, Adrian (Jane) DeBoom of Henderson, MN, John (Judy) DeBoom of Cedarburg, WI, Robert (Marynell) DeBoom of Oconomowoc, WI; one sister Phyllis (Marlo) Lindstrom of Avoca, MN; one step-son Paul (Mary Ann) Silk of Ramsey, MN, one granddaughter Erin Silk of Carol Stream, IL. She was preceded in death by her father, husband and one nephew Jeff Lindstrom. She will be long remembered for her many acts of kindness to her nieces, nephews and others. A Memorial Service will be held Sunday February 26, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. at the United Methodist Church in Lake City with the Reverend Don Jones officiating. Burial will be in Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis. Friends may call one hour before the services at the church. Memorials are preferred to Cancer Society Research or donors choice.
