Katherine E. Breza

Katherine Elaine Breza, 70, of Kasson, died Friday, February 10, 2017 at HCMC in Minneapolis. She was born July 23, 1946 to Wallace and Hazel (Hokenstrom) Weberg in Red Wing. She attended Red Wing Central High school. After school she went to work at First State Bank in Red Wing and later the State of Minnesota and Winona National Bank before she married Steve Breza of Winona, on May 17, 1969 at the Church of St. Joseph in Red Wing. Together the couple made their home in Kasson where they raised one son, Steve Jr. Throughout her life, Katherine worked many jobs but most recently, she was the head cook for Kasson-Mantorville High School. She volunteered with the American Legion Post 333 in Kasson, 4H and taught Sunday school at Cross of Christ Lutheran Church in Welch. She was a talented cook and baker who canned her own food. She was a skilled seamstress and also helped her mother loom rugs. Katherine enjoyed watching The Wheel of Fortune. She also devoted time to fostering and adopting rescued dogs.
She is survived by her husband, Steve of Kasson (formerly of Winona); son, Steve Jr. (Krissy Peterson) of Hayfield; brother, Allen Weberg of Welch; nieces and nephews; Chad Weberg, Sara Pitts, Lynn Beck, Wendy Laws and Greg Hasselblad.
She is preceded in death by one sister, Barbara (William) Hasselblad and her parents, Wallace and Hazel Weberg.
Funeral service will be 10 a.m., Friday, February 17, 2017 at Cross of Christ Lutheran Church in Welch with Pastor Robert Berthold officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at church. Burial to follow at Fort Snelling. In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred.
