Laura Betcher

Laura M. Betcher, age 103, of Lake City and formerly of Mazeppa, died on Friday, April 14, 2006 at Lake City Nursing Home. Funeral services are scheduled for Monday, April 17, 2006 at 1:30 P.M. at St. John?s Lutheran Church in Mazeppa with Reverend Alan Horn officiating. Burial will be in Mazeppa Cemetery. Visitation is scheduled for Monday one hour prior to the service at the church. Laura Martha Sommerfield was born on October 27, 1902 on the family farm in Mazeppa Township, Wabasha County, MN to William and Anna (nee Goldbech) Sommerfield. She grew up on the family farm and attended country school. On November 21, 1934 she married Henry Betcher at Poplar Grove Lutheran Church in rural Pine Island. They made their home in Mazeppa and Henry worked as a carpenter and Laura was a homemaker. Laura enjoyed crocheting and gardening. She was a member of St. John?s Lutheran Church. Laura is survived by three sons, Henry (Marlene) Betcher and Alvin Betcher, both of Mazeppa and Lloyd (Carol) Betcher of Lake City, two grandchildren, Dale Betcher and Lori Huffman, both of Lake City, three great grandchildren, Heidi Savage of Inver Grove Heights, Kyle Savage and Drew Huffman, both of Lake City and one brother, H.O. Sommerfield of Zumbrota. Laura was preceded in death by her husband Henry, one stepdaughter Ruth Polzin, two sisters, and seven brothers. Casketbearers are Rod Sommerfield, Willmar Sommerfield, Jim Glander, Dale Betcher, Kyle Savage, and Drew Huffman. Arrangements are with the Mahn Family Funeral Home ? Larson Chapel in Zumbrota.
