Obituary Notice LaVerne Swanson Oscar LaVerne Swanson, 86, formerly of Bay City, died Saturday, April 15, 2006 at the Dove Healthcare Center in Eau Claire, Wisconsin. He was born August 5, 1919 in Red Wing to Oscar and Eva (Foster) Swanson. He attended country school in the Bay City area. On September 9, 1939, he married Evelyn Wandmacher. He was a dairy farmer in Vasa, MN and Bay City, WI. He was recognized by Pierce County in 1989 for 30 years of County Agricultural and Conservation Service and in 1995 for 33 years of Service on the Hartland Town Board. He was a member of the Ellsworth School Board and actively involved in 4-H as a leader in the Busy Fingers Fancy Doers 4-H Club, County Fair Superintendent from 1979 to 1984, and as an officer of the 4-H Leaders Association. In 1964, he won the Seyforth Leadership Award. He was a member of St. Paul?s Lutheran Church and had served as an usher for many years. He enjoyed woodworking, fishing and spending time at the cabin on Lake Horseshoe. He and Evelyn had moved to Eau Claire in 2003. He is survived by his wife, Evelyn of Eau Claire; 3 children, Karen (Leo) Kahnke of Kenyon; Douglas (Julie) of Fountain Hills, AZ and Barbara (Bruce) Miller of Altoona, Wisc.; a brother, Lowell (Bonnie) Swanson of Spooner, Wisc.; 9 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and a daughter-in-law, Bernardine Swanson. Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Wednesday, at St. Paul?s Lutheran Church, with Reverend Kristen Schlauderaff officiating. Burial will be at Trenton Cemetery. Pallbearers will be David Nord, Scott Swanson, Kurt Fjelland, Paul, Brian and Nathan Kahnke, Matthew Miller and Joshua Lahner. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service at the church. Memorials preferred to the church. Arrangements handled by Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel.
