Lawrence “Boomer” Brummund, 85, formerly of Wanamingo, died Saturday, July 12, 2025 at the Three Links Care center in Northfield. He was born August 21, 1939, on the family farm near Rosemount, Minnesota. He graduated from Farmington High School in 1958 and enlisted in the US Navy in 1961, serving during the Vietnam War. After his discharge in 1965, he served in the US Army Reserves until retiring after 20 years of service. On September 3, 1977, he was united in marriage to Mary Gerster at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Farmington. They lived in Farmington for a few years before settling in Wanamingo where they had a hobby farm and raised horses. Horses became an important part of their lives, and they began taking them to horse shows, parades and on camping trips with them. Boomer began his career with Cross Nursery before starting with Bachman’s, where he worked for 30 plus years in the nursery growing range, retiring at the age of 70.
After he and Mary sold their farm, they moved to Red Wing and lived at the Downtown Plaza. They had been past members of Our Savior’s Lutheran and Land’s Lutheran Church before joining Immanuel Lutheran, Hay Creek after living in Red Wing. Lawrence was a lifetime member of the American Legion and the VFW Wanamingo Quame Post 186 and had volunteer with the honor guard for many years.
He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Mary Brummund; 3 brothers, Edward, Paul and Rodney (Darlene); 4 sisters, Anita, Laurel, Carol and Laurinda (Ray) and many nieces and nephews and close family friend, Jamie (Leonard Wood) Johnson. He was preceded in death by his parents and 3 brothers, Herbie, Albert and David.
Memorial service will be 11 a.m. Saturday, July 19, 2025 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Hay Creek with Rev. Lowell Sorenson officiating. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial with military honors will be at the church cemetery. Arrangements handled by Mahn Family Funeral Home, Larson Chapel.
