Lawrence J. Nielson

Captain Lawrence J Nielson, 70, passed away unexpectedly on April 8, 2026 at St. Elizabeth’s hospital in Wabasha.

Larry was born on April 2, 1956 to James & Rosella (Kuisle) Nielson in Rochester, Minnesota. He graduated from John Marshall High School ,class of 1974, in Rochester, MN. He spend many years in the construction business, building residential and commercial buildings. Larry married Nancy Hanson in Lake City in 1995. They built their home on Lake Pepin in 1997. Larry later owned and operated Pearl of the Lake Riverboat. He loved sunrises and taking photos of them and the wildlife around his home and the lake.

Larry is survived by his wife Nancy ; children, Jessica (Nick) Hoffman of Omaha, NE., Chris Nielson of Vidor TX.; siblings, Marie Denker of Rochester, MN., Judy Helgerson of Las Vegas, NV., Kay (Mark) Wendle of Mesa AZ., Ed (Theresa) Nielson of Rochester, MN., Sue (Ed) Gesser of Charlston, NC.; his beloved dog Hazel.

He is preceded in death by his parents, James & Rosella Nielson.
