Lawrence "Larry" C. Zylka

Lawrence “Larry” Celestine Zylka, 80, of Red Wing, died Wednesday, November 22, 2023 at the Mayo Clinic Health Systems – Red Wing.  He was born June 24, 1943, to Celestine and Mildred (Voglin) Zylka in Little Falls, MN.  He graduated from Little Falls High school in 1961 then attended Northwestern Drafting School in St. Louis Park.  On September 24, 1964, he married Diane Lashinski in Sobieski, MN.  During his career as a drafting engineer, he worked at McQuay, Van Dale, Hedlund, and Cray Research and was responsible for two patents on super computers.  They lived in the Twin Cities area then later to Menomonie, WI. and finally retiring in Spooner, WI.  Larry was a member of the Church of St. Joseph in Red Wing.  He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing, along with being an all-around handyman.

He is survived by his wife, Diane of Red Wing; son, Chris (Joey) of Red Wing; daughter, Kim (Jeff) Flatness of Elk Mound, Wis.; four grandchildren, Hannah and Josh Flatness and Hayden and Tatum Zylka; five brothers, Ken, Greg (Wendy), John (RaDonna), Doug (Joelle) and Jeff (Jackie) Zylka all of Little Falls; two sisters, Marlene Mallinson of Little Falls and Terri (Dave Neisinger) Smith of Opal, MN and many nieces and nephews.  He is preceded in death by his parents; sister-in-law Julie Zylka; two brothers-in-law, Roy Mallinson and Dan Smith.

Mass of Resurrection will be 11 a.m. Friday, December 1, 2023 at the Church of St. Joseph with Father Brandon Theisen presiding. Burial will be at the Calvary Cemetery.  Visitation will be one hour prior to the Mass at church.  Memorials are preferred to the Lewy Body Dementia Association.  Arrangements are by the Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel.
