Leonard John Strusz passed away unexpectedly at his home on February 6. Lenny was born to Lawrence and Lucille (Bremer) Strusz on July 17, 1946. He graduated from Red Wing Central High School in 1964. In October of 1965 he was united in marriage to the love of his life, Jeanette Anderson. Together they raised their family in Red Wing.
Lenny held various jobs throughout his lifetime, but the one that brought him the most joy and reward was his position as Deputy Director of Streets of Public Works at the City of Red Wing, from which he retired in 2008. Lenny worked hard and he was a role model, instilling a strong work ethic for his children and grandchildren to follow.
Lenny was very social and he loved to be around his family and friends. Whether it was helping his kids with projects at their home (he painted all three kids’ homes), traveling with friends, sitting at the table playing a game of euchre (he was one talented card player), or meeting new people while tending bar, Lenny always had a joke or story to tell and a laugh to share. He really enjoyed his time out on a lake or on the river fishing with his son and grandson, and then sharing their catch hosting fish frys at his home.
Lenny’s greatest pride and joy were his eight grandchildren, and of late, becoming a great-grandfather. He truly enjoyed his visits from the little ones and he was in awe of watching them grow and learn.
Lenny is survived by his three children, Kim (Brent) Honcharenko, Amy (Bob) Carlson, and Tony Strusz; his brother Arnie (Karen) Strusz; grandchildren, Marcus (Makayla) Honcharenko, Katie (Jon) Elias, Kirstin (Parker) Wilken, Molly Carlson, Nathan Carlson, Maren Honcharenko, Ryan Strusz, and Brooke Strusz; great-grandchildren, Lauren and Garrett Elias, and Caroline Honcharenko; and many nieces and nephews.
He was proceeded in death by his wife, Jeanette, his parents, Lawrence and Lucille, and his sister and brother-in-law Darlene (Luverne) Lee.
A visitation for Lenny will be held from 4-7 p.m. on Wednesday, February 11, 2026, at Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel.
As Lenny said so many times, “There’s not much else we can do, so we go from here.” In lieu of gifts or flowers, please raise a glass and have a “Final, final,” for Lenny.
