Lois F. Theis

Lois Florence Theis, age 88, of Red Wing, passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by family, on Monday, May 12, 2025. She was born December 27, 1936 in Red Wing to Clarence and Edina (Conrad) Kells. She attended schools in Red Wing. She then cared for her maternal grandparents. She began working as a waitress at Bremer Café in Goodhue. She married Darold Stechmann and they had two daughters together. They later divorced. She later married Richard Powers and they had a son together. Lois worked at Red Wing Shoe, and later as a care giver at several nursing facilities in Red Wing. She worked for St. James Hotel where she worked for 25 years until retiring. On July 31, 1980, she married Gary Theis at the Little Brown Church in Iowa. She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church. Lois enjoyed spending time in the garden and taking care of her flowers, playing cards and going on bus trips. More than anything she loved spending time with her family and enjoying their time together.

She is survived by her husband, Gary of Red Wing; children, Mary Jo (Steve Morris) Slotto of Red Wing, Linda Stechmann of Red Wing, Shawn (Paula) Powers of Bellechester; stepson Tracy Theis of IA; grandchildren, Stacie Stechmann, Shaina Whipps, Ben, Aaron, and Megan Powers, Mitch and Brandon Theis, Matty Slotto; great-grandchild Austen Maggle and Monroe Whipps; siblings, John and Jim Kells, Louise Ulbrich and Nancy Damman. She was preceded in death by her parents, Clarence and Edina; former spouses Darold Stechmann and Richard Powers; granddauther, Tracie Slotto; sister, Neoma Roper.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Saturday, May 17, 2025 with Reverend Todd Engel officiating at St. John’s Lutheran Church. Visitation will take place one hour prior to the service at the church.
