Louis William Tomforde passed away peacefully on May 31, 2026.
Louis was born October 23, 1946 to William and Irene Tomforde in Lake City, MN. His favorite childhood memories centered around the time he spent on the farm with his grandparents, Henry and Stella Luhman. He attended St. John’s Elementary and graduated from Lincoln High School with the class of 1964.
In 1965, he was drafted into the United States Army and stationed in Bamberg, Germany. After his military service, he returned home and began working at the Red Wing flour mill. On May 20, 1968, he started a career at the Lake City Flour Mill, retiring after 40 years of dedicated hard work.
In 1972, he met the love of his life, Janice Freese. They were united in marriage on May 25, 1973 and shared a wonderful life together. Throughout their marriage they raised two children, took numerous road trips, and had wonderful times with close friends and family.
Louis was a proud grandfather and spent countless hours helping to care for his grandchildren. He frequently treated them to special lunches and made sure that while away from mom they always had the chance to have ice cream for breakfast. After his wife passed, he would continue their love of roadtrips on a smaller scale, and one of his favorite pastimes was going for a "spin" just to see what was happening in the area around Lake City.
He is survived by his son Mark (Measa) Tomforde of Colorado Springs, CO and daughter Lisa (Pete) Edwards of Lakeville, MN, as well as his two grandchildren Lily and Charlie, his brother Harold (Lynda) Tomforde, and his sister Mary Kohrs.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Janice.
A visitation will be held from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. on Thursday, June 11, 2026 at the Mahn Family Funeral Home, Anderson Peterson Chapel followed by burial with military honors at St. John's Cemetery.
