Lydia M. Culver of the Oronoco and Pine Island area died on Sunday afternoon, April 30, 2006 at the Pine Haven Care Center. Funeral Services are scheduled for Thursday, May 4, 2006 at 2:00 P.M. at Grace Lutheran Church in Oronoco with Reverend Paul Baldauf officiating. Burial will be in Oronoco Cemetery. Visitation is scheduled for Wednesday, May 3, 2006 from 4:00-8:00 P.M. at the Mahn Family Funeral Home - Mahler Chapel in Pine Island and on Thursday one hour prior to the service at the church. Lydia Margaret Wittlief was born on November 15, 1915 in Oronoco Township, Olmsted County, MN to Henry and Catherine (nee Heitman) Wittlief. She grew up on the family farm and attended country school. On December 23, 1943 she married Carl Culver in Oronoco. They lived in California while Carl was serving in the U.S. Army Air Corp. Lydia moved back to Oronoco in the summer of 1944. After Carl?s discharge he returned to Oronoco and they farmed with his parents. In 1950 they started farming the Wittlief family farm and in December of 2004 they moved from the farm to Pine Island. Lydia was a member of the Oronoco Senior Citizens and an active member of Grace Lutheran Church. She enjoyed sewing, quilting, cooking and gardening. Lydia is survived by her husband, Carl, one son, Jim (Judy) Culver of Chippewa Falls, WI, one daughter, Linda (Jim) Schull of Medford, eight grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister, Esther Lange, and four brothers, Ben, Alex, John and Edwin Wittlief. Casketbearers are Brent Mueller, Bob Martin, Judd Schultz, Jeremy Culver, Mark and Matthew Schull. Honorary bearers are Mitchell Schull, Ed Accola, and Clare Wittlief. The family suggests memorials to the church or Pine Haven Care Center.
