Lynn Allen Gustafson, 82, of Red Wing, passed away at St. Crispin Living Community Care Center on Saturday May 9, 2026. He was born on August 28, 1943, in Pequot Lakes, Minn. to Donald and Georgia (Norwood) Gustafson. Lynn graduated from Red Wing Central High School in 1961. After graduating, he enlisted in the US Navy and during his time, had been stationed on the supply ships USS Pollack and USS Procyon off the coast of Vietnam. He was honorably discharged in 1966. On January 4, 1965, he was united in marriage to Helen Goranson in Wabasha, Minn. He worked at WT Grant in St. Paul, before being transferred to Milwaukee, Wisc., and later transferred back to Minnesota. He eventually returned to Red Wing to work for his father at Red Wing Service Company until 2005. He then worked for a local alarm company until he retired. Lynn’s family was the most important part of his life, and he was especially fond of his great-granddaughters. When his children were younger, Lynn and Helen often took them camping and he and Helen had enjoyed many card nights with extended family. Lynn loved to tell jokes (aka “Grandpa’s Bad Jokes”) and he always had a story (many not true). Lynn also enjoyed fishing with his son Chris, watching MN Twins, Diet Coke and Snickers and he held a deep respect for the American Flag . Lynn volunteered at Coffee Hour after Sunday church services at First United Methodist, the Sheldon Theater, Red Wing Area Mountain Bike Club, Red Wing Community Garden, Red Wing Marching Band, and for several years, helped set up the sound system for the Memorial Day services at Bay Point Park.
Lynn is survived by his beloved wife, Helen; his four children, Tammy Gustafson of Red Wing, Melissa (Kurt) Brueschke of Red Wing, Angela Lancman of Red Wing, and Chris Gustafson of Red Wing; six grandchildren, Melinda Brueschke, Megan Mentzel, Colin Brueschke, Taryn Reed, Andrew Lancman (Emily Palka), and Gabrielle Lancman (Willy Thomas); and two great-grandchildren, Willow and Adelaide. He was preceded in death by his parents.
