Mabel Phyllis Holst

A memorial service for Mabel Holst will be held Friday June 26th at 11:00 AM at the Emmanuel Lutheran Church at Aspelund. The Rev. Martin Horn will officiate. A private burial will occur at the Zumbrota Cemetery. Mrs. Holst, 98, of Zumbrota, died Sunday June 21, 2015 at her Halter Terrace Apartments residence in Zumbrota. She had been under hospice care.
Mabel Phyllis Vang was born January 21, 1917 in Zumbrota, the daughter of Peter and Jessie Vang. Raised in Zumbrota, she was a graduate of Zumbrota High School with the Class of 1935. On September 2, 1937 she married Norman Holst at the United Lutheran Church in Zumbrota. The couple made their home in Zumbrota. Mabel worked as a clerk at Lee Drug Store for over 40 years, and also Jorgenson Shoes. She enjoyed sewing, outdoor activities, camping, playing piano, and singing. She was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church at Aspelund, and was a member of its Lydia Circle.
She is survived by her daughter, Phyllis M. Holst of Burnsville; a grandson, Christopher Reynolds of Minneapolis; two great-grandchildren, Evalea and Evergaard Sheryak; a nephew, Butch Lyon; a niece, Sandy Jorgenson; a sister-in-law, Audrey Ayen; and numerous other nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Norman Holst; siblings, Casper Hendrickson, Gurina Skaar, Clifford Vang, Margie Jorgenson, Pauline Lyon, and Lewis Vang. She was also preceded by a special friend, Irvin Berg.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday. If so desired, memorials may be directed to Emmanuel Lutheran Church at Aspelund. Online tributes are being welcomed, and may be written at this website.
