She had a light surrounding her as she spread happiness, laughs, and love to those around her.
Mackenzie Marie Markham, 24, passed away suddenly on Saturday, July 18, 2026. Mackenzie was born February 28, 2002, the daughter of Katie Markham and Mohamed Hassan.
Mackenzie graduated from Pine Island High School in 2020, received her Bachelors of Science in Psychology from Mankato State in 2024 and her Masters of Science in Industrial-Organizational Psychology from St. Cloud University in May 2026. Mackenzie was an associate human resources business partner with UNFI.
Mackenzie enjoyed family time, especially playing Hearts, loved to travel with her friends and singing karaoke with her girlfriends. She had a light surrounding her as she spread happiness, laughs, and love to those around her. Mackenzie touched many lives with her compassion and determination, leaving a lasting impression on friends, family and colleagues alike. She resided in Minneapolis with her boyfriend Jess.
Mackenzie is survived by her mother, Katie Hassan (Markham), step-father, Mohammed “Mo” Jamea; father, Mohamed Hassan; brothers, Zackariah, Ali, and Malik; sisters, Sophia and Jasmine; her grandmother, Tammy “Nana” Markham; her great-grandmother, Virginia Markham; great-grandfather, Wayne Barth; significant other, Jess-Alek Burakeye; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins. She is preceded in death by her grandfather, Kenneth “Papa” Markham; and her biological father, Iidle Hassan.
Mackenzie touched many lives with her compassion and determination.
Services will be 11 a.m. on Saturday, July 25, 2026 at Pine Island United Methodist Church. Service will be livestreamed by the church for those that are unable to attend. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. on Friday, July 24, 2026 at Mahn Family Funeral Home, Mahler Chapel in Pine Island, Minnesota and one hour prior to the service at the church. Inurnment will take place at Pine Island Cemetery at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the discretion of the family.
