Margaret “Peggy” Louise (Berglund) Kurkjian, 89, passed away on June 19, 2025. She was born May 25, 1936 in Minneapolis, Minnesota to Louise and Stanley Berglund. Peggy had two younger brothers, Jim and Bob. She grew up in Minneapolis, attended the University of Minnesota, and received a degree in Home Economics. Peggy worked at General Mills and Land O’Lakes in the Food Service Departments. There, she developed recipes for their products and cookbooks. Peggy had a son, Chris, and daughter, Catherine, from her first marriage, and raised them in Red Wing, Minnesota. Later, Peggy married John Kurkjian, and they enjoyed 35 years together. They lived in Minnesota, Colorado and Arizona. When John died, Peggy moved to San Clemente, California to be close to son, Chris, wife, Gayle, stepson, John David, and brother, Bob. Recently, Peggy moved back home to Minnesota to be near her children, who had both moved back as well. Peggy is preceded in death by her husband, John, her parents and her brother, Jim. She is survived by her brother, Bob Berglund, son, Chris (Gayle) Lantz, daughter, Catherine Hooper, stepsons, John David Kurkjian and Orley (Danielle) Allen, grandchildren, Kyle, Matthew (Afton), Amy, David (Amy), Elizabeth (Jacob), Samuel, Tracy, and great-grandchildren, Briley, Landon, Kylee, Zoe, Mackenzie, and Madison.
Memorials can be sent to the American Diabetes Association.
Burial will be at Lakewood Cemetery in Minneapolis. A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, July 12, 2:00-5:00pm, at the St. James Hotel in Red Wing, Minnesota.
