Marion E. Kolberg

Feb 13, 1935 — Aug 14, 2026

Red Wing, MN

Marion Elnora Kolberg, 91, of Red Wing, passed away Friday, August 14, 2026, at the Mayo Clinic Health System, Lake City Care Center. She was born February 13, 1935, in Red Wing, to Alvin and Elnora (Hinsch) Diercks. She graduated from Red Wing Central High School in 1952 and was united in marriage to Thomas Kolberg on September 14, 1956, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Hay Creek. Marion worked at the Medical Block before she and Tom started their family. After her children were older, she returned to work as a medical secretary for the private practices of Dr. Billings, Dr. Schroeder and Dr. Ralph Rayner.

Marion was a faithful member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, where for many years she assisted with the church bulletins and other secretarial duties and was an active member of the Ladies Aid and ladies quilting group. She also served as a 4-H leader, was an active member and past officer of PEO, chapter ET and served as treasurer of Hay Creek Township from 2005 to 2011.

Marion enjoyed sewing and quilting and was well known in her family for making special baby blankets and graduation quilts. For more than 60 years, she and Tom were part of a couples’ card club, where they enjoyed playing euchre and spending time with good friends. Marion and Tom also enjoyed traveling and staying active with their children and grandchildren, always wanting to be a part of their lives and activities.

Marion found true joy in playing with and caring for her grandchildren. She was always thinking of others and finding ways to do something special for them. Her generous and kind spirit, along with the love she so freely gave to her family, will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

She is survived by her children, Brad Kolberg and Lori (Paul) Reding both of Red Wing; 3 grandchildren, Kristin (Scott) Franks and their children Beckham, Nora and Natalie of Black River Falls, WI; Jason (Ashley) Reding and their children Bella, Dempsey, Collins and Sullivan of Red Wing; Kelsey (Will) Peasley and their children, Tommy, Lena, Josiah, Andrew and Eden of Black River Falls, WI and a sister-in-law, Sandy Thompson of Philadelphia.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Tom; brother and sister-in-law, Gerald (Rosie) Diercks and a niece, Heidi Krause.
