Marjorie M. Lohman

April 18, 1928 — July 21, 2025

Red Wing

Marjorie Lohman, age 97, of Red Wing, Minnesota, passed away July 21, 2025.

Marjorie Mae Lewis was born April 18, 1928 to Fred and Tillie (Nelson) Lewis. She was raised on a farm in Esdaile, Wisconsin, near Ellsworth, along with her two brothers, Earl and Ralph Lewis, before moving to Red Wing with her parents at age 18 following graduation from Ellsworth High School. It was there while working for Monson Dray Line trucking company that she met her future and dear husband Kenneth Lohman. Marge and Kenny were wed August 16, 1952 and married for 46 years before he died in 1998, but she carried him with her every day of her life until her own passing.

She is deliciously remembered as an excellent baker, and her kitchen was always warm and welcoming. Each Christmas, she and her family would gather to mix, roll, and bake lefse. She also prepared wonderful meals and each family member got his or her favorite at birthdays.

Before her eyesight failed her, she was also an excellent sewer, stitching together clothes for her kids, quilts for her church group that were donated to the less fortunate, and lovely embroidery and holiday craft items which her family still displays each season.

Her family was dear to her and she would do anything for them. She was also strong in faith and was a member of First Lutheran Church in Red Wing for decades until her death. Family members joked that she had a direct pipeline to God and would come to her often for counsel and prayers during times of woe. While she was never able to pursue her dream of a teaching career, she taught Sunday school for many years and was a teacher of life through her faith and actions.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her two brothers, many other relatives – and almost everyone else in her immediate circle, having reached the ripe old age of 97.

She is survived by her daughter Patti Fladhammer and her husband Brian of Red Wing, who saw to her every need as she grew older; also, son Alan Lohman and wife Lori of rural Chaska, Minnesota. Marge was like a second mother to Brian and Lori, who lost their own mothers at a young age. Her life and memory also continue in her two wonderful grandchildren Emma and Elliott Lohman, whom she thought the world of, and she would take great delight when they would visit to help bake cookies, pies, monkey bread and hot dish. She took joy in watching them grow and attending their many activities.

Funeral service for Marge will be 11 a.m. Monday, July 28, 2025 at First Lutheran Church with Rev. Quinlan Koch officiating and visitation will be for one hour prior to the service. Marge will be laid to rest at Oakwood Cemetery next to her husband Kenny and near her parents with whom she will reside now for eternity. Memorials preferred to First Lutheran Church of Red Wing, or donor’s choice.

The family wishes to express their appreciation to the staff at Potter Ridge Assisted Living for the care they provided during Marge’s final years. Arrangements handled by Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel.
