Mary Kay Evers, 80, passed away on Thursday, July 31, 2025 at Mayo’s St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester, MN. She was surrounded by her family, as she passed away peacefully leaving her time on earth to be with the Lord.
Mary was born on April 30, 1945 to August & Marie Herbst in Lake City, MN. She met her true love at a high school basketball game and married Elmer ( Ike ) Evers on April 25, 1964 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Lake City. They were blessed to have been married 61 years. They lived in Lake City after they were married and shortly after, moved out to the farm where Mary grew up to help her dad and brother farm. Mary was a worker and never sat still. She worked at the bank in Rochester and Lake City, the Wabasha Vet Clinic and the Chickadee Cottage in Lake City for many years, she enjoyed helping on the farm, golfing, gardening, planting flowers, mowing her lawn (three times a week) and her biggest joy was putting up Christmas lights for all the neighbors to see. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were her pride and joy. Mary was also known for her bright colored clothing, matching accessories, flip flops and sunglasses.
She belonged to the St Mary’s Catholic Church, CCW, and Lake Pepin Golf Group.
Mary is survived by her husband, Elmer; her children, Jason (Nicole) Evers of Lake City, Angela (Martin) Murphy of Kellogg; grandson, Mitchell (Brianna) Murphy of Hartland WI; great grandchildren, Connor, Liam, Colin and Aislin Murphy; sister, Jo Anne Polyard of Huffman, TX.; sister in-law Judy Herbst of Lake City, sister-in-law Irene Herbst-Smith from Okeechobee Florida.
She is preceded in death by her parents, August & Marie Herbst; her son, Anthony Evers; granddaughter, Kayla Murphy; brother, Don Herbst; sister, Carol Skog, and brother Richard Herbst.
A Memorial Mass will be held on Friday, August 8, 2025 at 11 am, at St. Mary’s of the Lake Catholic Church in Lake City with Father The Hoang and Father James Russell officiating. Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 7, 2025, at St. Mary's of the Lake Catholic Church in Lake City, from 4 to 7 pm, and 1 hour before the service at the church. The family asks that you wear bright colors to help celebrate Mary’s life.
