Melinda Marie Helmer, 52, of Red Wing, died on Friday, May 17, at her home surrounded by her family. She was born on July 26, 1966, in Red Wing to Robert and Mary (Bollinger) Flynn. She graduated in 1984 from Red Wing Central High School. On December 21, 1985, she was united in marriage to Bryan Helmer. She worked for various businesses, but most notably for the St. James Hotel and Target. She was a recipient of a heart transplant in 2007 at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester. She was a member of First Lutheran Church. She enjoyed the outdoors, camping at state and national parks, traveling and had a passion for quilting and sewing. She always had a smile on her face and was loved by everyone that she met.
Melinda is survived by her husband, Bryan; one son, Curtis (Breanna) Helmer; two grandchildren, Oliver and Devin; one sister, Michele (Mel) Hokanson and one brother, DuWayne (Bonnie) Flynn along with many nieces and nephews and other family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Memorial service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 22, 2019, at First Lutheran Church in Red Wing with Reverend Arte Sharot officiating. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, May 21 at the Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel and at the church for one hour prior to the service.
