Michael Scott Anderson, 65, of Hager City, Wisconsin, passed away Thursday, January 25, 2024, at his home, surrounded by his family. He was born July 26, 1958, in Omaha, Nebraska, to Roger and Patricia (Lannom) Anderson. His family moved from Nebraska to South Dakota to Minnesota, where he graduated from Farmington High School in 1976. After a year at the University of Minnesota, Michael had the urge to travel and headed to California, where he was soon encouraged by a family member to look into the US Navy and Michael decided soon after to enlist. His smarts and skills were just what was needed to became a part of the nuclear navy. He served six years, part of which was as a nuclear instructor in Idaho and the last stint of his service was spent at sea, in a submarine. Following his honorable discharge, he returned to Minnesota and began working at NSP, where he was a Lead Reactor Operator and then lead station electrician, retiring in 2017.
Michael met the love of his life, Laurie Olson, and they were married on April 4, 1987. They lived in Red Wing for a time before moving to Hager City in 1990, where they raised their two boys, Bryan and Tyler. Michael enjoyed golfing, was an avid reader and history lover, but his best times were being with his friends and family. He was an intelligent, witty man, who was often true to his word.
He will be dearly missed by his wife, Laurie Anderson of Hager City; 2 sons, Bryan and Tyler Anderson of Hager City; 2 grandchildren, Benji and Perri; his mother, Patricia Anderson of Mikana, Wisconsin; sister, Pam (Brad) Nelson of Albert Lea; brothers, Lee (Lisa Marie) Anderson of Blaine and Tracy (Emily) Anderson of Minneapolis; sister-in-law, Linda (Tim) Woltjer of Scandia and brother-in-law, Kevin Olson of Grand Rapids and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Leonard and Erma Anderson and Ruth and Bonner Lannon and his father, Roger Anderson.
A celebration of Michael’s life will be at the Red Wing Elks Lodge on Sunday, March 17 from 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. with a time of dedicated remembrances at 1p.m.. Arrangements handled by Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel.
