Michael (Mike) James Green, age 77, of Lake City, MN passed away unexpectedly due to medical complications on Sunday January 11, 2026. He was born May 17, 1948 in Springfield, MN to Jim and Rosie Green. He grew up in Chippewa Falls, WI and moved to Eau Claire, WI where he graduated from Regis High School in 1966. Following graduation, the family moved to Burnsville, MN. Shortly after, Mike joined the U.S. Navy.
He actively served from 1968-1971 and was deployed during the Vietnam War. After returning home, he enlisted as a reservist and served in that capacity until May 2008, when he retired as a Petty Officer Second Class. During those years, he earned: a National Defense Service Medal, a Meritorious Unit Commendation, and a Vietnam Service Medal/Ribbon with Bronze Star.
After returning from active duty, he moved to Montana where he tried his hand at being a cowboy on Ted Turner’s “Flying D” Ranch. After a few years, he returned to Minnesota where in 1981 he met the love of his life, Marti (Hannon). They were wed in 1982. They started raising their family in Apple Valley, MN and later moved to Lake City, MN where they have resided since 1993. He had a career in sales/management and after he attempted to retire, he found a new passion driving bus for Hiawathaland Transit over the last decade.
Whether through his work, his hobbies, or time spent with those he loves, Mike made a lasting impression on everyone who had the privilege of knowing him. To know him was to love him. He was an avid lover of his family, music, Jeeps, and dogs – which was best demonstrated by Jeep Days where all of his favorite things were able to be enjoyed. Mike was very strong in his faith. He also enjoyed hunting, watching the Packers, working on his home and yard, attending his grandchildren’s sporting events, and he loved sharing meaningful experiences with his family, always aiming to brighten their days. He’ll be remembered for his generosity, sense of humor, and genuine care he showed to others. His memory will live on in stories shared and lessons taught.
Mike was a beloved son, brother, husband, dad, and grandpa, and is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Marti; daughters Ellie (Matt), Cassie (Aaron), and Amanda (Hunter); grandchildren Gage (Mikenzie), Adalai, Kellen, Chloe, Ayden, and Sawyer; siblings Barb, John (Heidi), Pete (Annie), and Linda (Brian), Aunt Connie; sister-in-law Marm (Roger) Ellis and a loving extended family of many nieces, nephews and cousins.
