  • Michael “Mike” Joseph Harris passed away Sunday June 7th, 2026, at home with his loved ones by his side. Mike was born to Don and Joanne Harris on June 21st, 1955, in Eau Claire, Wisconsin. They later moved to Red Wing. Growing up, Mike and his family enjoyed spending time together whether that was traveling or skiing with his dad and sister-a passion he later passed on to his family. He graduated from Red Wing Central High in 1973 and then attended St. Olaf College. During his Junior year at St. Olaf, Mike, his father, and two business partners purchased a grocery store in Hastings, which later became Don’s SuperValu. From there they transitioned to Hastings County Market, and later Cub Foods. Mike loved every one of his customers and served the Hastings community for over 44 years. He met his loving wife Dodie in 1981. They dated for three weeks before he asked her to marry him- when you know, you know (as he always said). They were married on May 1st, 1982. Together they had three beautiful children, to whom they dedicated their love and lives to. Being a husband and a father was Mike’s greatest accomplishment in life. In 2003 he moved his family to Bavaria, Germany for a year so they could experience their heritage firsthand. Throughout their year abroad, he ensured that every opportunity was taken. They traveled to many different countries and never missed a chance to experience all that life had to offer as a family. Mike enjoyed countless hobbies such as hiking, traveling, sailing, kayaking, camping, listening to music, riding his motorcycle through Central High (yes, he rode his motorcycle through the school), and even showing off his unicycle skills. Mike loved life and lived every day to the fullest. He never missed an opportunity to show the world his infectious smile. Of his many passions in life, skiing was his favorite and he made sure to share that passion with his family. He was one of the greatest skiers to ever hit the slopes and never missed an opportunity to boot up, ensuring a glass of “turning fluid” was always involved. Mike was a devout Christian, and we know he is smiling down on all of us from Heaven. He is survived by his loving wife Dodie, children Kristianna (Justin) Lance and Franz Harris, Grandson Jager Lance, Sister Vicki (Jim) Kirk, Brothers-in-law John (Patty) Kosec, Robert (Deanna Horne) Kosec, Thomas Kosec, his many nieces and nephews as well as his many friends. He is preceded in death by his Son Jonathan Harris, Parents Donald and Joanne Harris and his In-laws Thomas and Gretl Kosec.
