Nancy Ann (Raymond) Scheerer, 83, surrounded by love, entered into Love Eternal Aug. 15, 2025.
Born May 14, 1942 in Everett, Wash., to Jesse and Winnie Raymond. She graduated from Arlington High School in 1960 and attended Cascade College in Portland, Ore., where she met Richard Scheerer. They married in 1963.
A gifted soprano, she was a voice major and while at Cascade, she sang with a women’s trio to earn her tuition and in a showcase choir. When Richard entered United Theological Seminary in the Twin Cities she worked in public relations in downtown Minneapolis.
As a pastor’s partner in churches across the upper Midwest, she was known as a kind, generous and wise hostess. At Union Church in Elk River, she founded and led Choristers for children in grades 4-8 and specialized in the child’s voice. In Mason City, Iowa, she became a parish health minister focusing on older members without family nearby.
In the Minnesota Conference UCC she served as Eastern Association Registrar and several terms on the nominating committee. Nancy held office in PEO Group P in Red Wing.
Nancy and Dick parented Ian and Angie and had a rich family life. They traveled across the country many times, visited England twice, as well as Fiji, Scandinavia, Ireland, and Italy, and traversed Canada from Victoria, B.C. to Cape Breton Island, N.S.
She is survived by Richard, Ian (Natasha Yates) Angela (Thomas) Kelly, grandchildren Jess Yates, David Scheerer, Justin Scheerer, Jonah (Jessie) Kelly, Alison Kelly; other son, Thomas Otto, sister Helen (Jerry) Hussey, Everett; sister-in-law, Carol Doran, and many close friends from coast to coast. She will be remembered for her years of thoughtful correspondence via handwritten notes and cards.
A Celebration of Life will be Saturday, Aug. 30 at First Presbyterian Church (503 W. 6th St., Red Wing). Visitation is 10 a.m. and the service at 11 a.m. Burial will be at the Oakwood Cemetery. Memorials preferred to First Presbyterian’s Music Fund (651-388-9584) or the National Eagle Center, 50 Pembroke Ave. S, Wabasha, MN, 55981.
