Patricia Yvonne
Rill Workman
August 25, 1929 – February 26, 2026
Patricia Yvonne Rill Workman was born on August 25, 1929, in Wabasha, Minnesota, and passed away on February 26, 2026, in Ladue, Missouri. She was 96 years old.
Soft-spoken, supportive, and devoted, Patricia was the loving wife of Douglas Workman (deceased February 26, 2012) and the cherished mother of three daughters: Susan Workman of Olalla, Washington; Carolyn Workman of Auckland, New Zealand; and Gail Workman (Mark Thoelke) of Ladue, Missouri. She was a beloved grandmother to Mariah Thoelke and Jessica Thoelke.
Known as “Patsy” to her parents and siblings, Patricia was the daughter of Elsie Mae (Fick) Rill and Lloyd Rill. She was preceded in death by her sisters Catherine (Fitzgerald) and Jeanne (Wise), and her brother, Lloyd William “Bill” Rill. She is survived by her sisters-in-laws, Avis Rill of Port Orchard, Washington, and Mary Ann “Bunny” Petersen of Red Wing, Minnesota.
After graduating from Lincoln High School, Patricia pursued her calling to nursing, completing her Registered Nurse education at Abbott Hospital in Minneapolis, Minnesota. She returned to Lake City to work at the local hospital, where Douglas Workman, also of Lake City, first noticed — and fell in love with — her soft, calming voice as she cared for his father, Carl Workman. They were married at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in 1951.
Together they raised their family in Des Moines, San Francisco, Detroit, and Chicago, following Douglas’s career with the Milwaukee Railroad. Upon retirement, they moved from Seattle to St. Louis to be close to their beloved granddaughters.
A self-described “farm girl,” Patricia loved tending to her extensive landscaping and gardens — most especially proud of her roses in Washington State. She was an accomplished cook and enthusiastic “foodie” long before the term became popular, and she never turned down a good cup of afternoon coffee. After moving to St. Louis, she delighted in attending Mariah and Jessica’s figure skating competitions, Friday night canasta, baking cookies with Jessica, looking after Mariah’s dog Dot, and faithfully following the St. Louis Cardinals.
Patricia resided at The Gatesworth for 14 years, where she formed many valued friendships and passed away peacefully surrounded by her devoted personal aides and family. A woman of quiet but steady faith, she found comfort in prayer and in the traditions of the Episcopal Church. True to the order and care with which she lived her life, her children find a meaningful symmetry in the fact that she entered Eternity on the 14th anniversary of the passing of her husband of more than 60 years.
A memorial service will be held in Lake City, Minnesota, on Memorial Day, Monday May 25th, at 1:30 p.m. at the Lakewood Cemetery. Arrangements are being handled by Mahn Family Funeral Home, Anderson-Peterson Chapel Lake City. Online condolences may be left for the family on www.mahnfamilyfuneralhome.com
