Paul Leslie Thompson, 77, of Red Wing, died Friday, October 4, 2024 at the Mayo Clinic Health Systems Methodist Campus in Rochester.
He was born April 18, 1947 in Red Wing, to Leslie and Bernice (Anderson) Thompson. He graduated from Red Wing Central High School before going onto a 27-year career in the U.S. Army National Guard. During this time, he was initiated as the 1st Battalion Mess Sargent in Red Wing. From 1966 to 1992 he worked for Riviera Cabinets. In 1968 he married Beverly Ann Harp. Together they would later own and operate Bayside Tavern for 23 years.
Paul was a member of the Leo C. Peterson American Legion for 47 consecutive years. He was also a past member of the Red Wing Lions where he served as president.
Paul enjoyed going out on his boat, fishing, and traveling. He liked baking and cooking. Later in life, he picked up the art of latch hooking. He loved spending time in his garden. But most of all, Paul loved spending time with his family, especially his grandkids.
He is survived by his wife Beverly; sons, Jeff (Susan) and Lonnie (Jenny) Thompson; grandchildren, Dylan, Hailey, and Logan; sister-in-law, Marlene Thompson; as well as nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Dale and Bob Thompson.
Memorial service will be 11 a.m. Saturday, October 19, 2024 at the Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson Mahn Chapel with Rev. Fran Hill officiating. Visitation will be from 4 – 7 p.m., Friday, October 18, 2024 and one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial with military honors provided by the Leo C. Peterson All-Veterans Color Guard will be at Burnside Cemetery following the service. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.mahnfamilyfuneralhome.com
