Peter Anthony Lang, 64, of Red Wing, passed away Wednesday, August 14, 2024 with his family by his side, after a sudden diagnosis with pancreatic cancer. He was born October 3, 1959, in St. Paul, to Ron and Iva (Ogle) Lang and graduated from Park High School, class of 1977. After high school he went into the trades and took up carpentry, eventually owning his own dry wall business, Van-Kee. He married his high school sweetheart, Deb Zarbok and together they had a daughter, Samantha. They later divorced. Peter sold his business and began working for Tamarack Materials out of Rochester and later Bloomington, where he’s worked for the past 29 years. On Oct. 1, 1988, he married LuAnn Dahl, and the two have been perfect mates ever since—whether it was playing in the church band together or enjoying an evening drink on the patio, they were a happy pair.
Pete had a love of music, which began in high school, where he participated in choir and band. He played the upright bass, acoustic and bass guitars, trombone and ukelele to name a few. He continued his talents with his father-in-law’s polka band, the Applejacks, then in the band, Mountain Dew and his last band, Relaxed Fit. One of his musical highlights was playing as the opening band for Jamey Johnson at Down by the Riverside in Rochester. He was also a part of the musical ministry at United Lutheran Church, English Lutheran Church, and at his current church, Lands Lutheran. He was also a part of the Red Wing Singers. Pete loved entertaining and was an excellent cook and baker. He was a thinker, who liked to process things but also had a wicked sense of humor, even up until his last days. He loved his family dearly, especially his grandbabies who endearingly referred to him as “Papa Pete.”
He is survived by his wife, LuAnn of Red Wing; daughter, Samantha (Gary) Pace of Ramsey; 3 grandchildren, Dominic, Karalee and Declan; bonus daughter, Elke (Dr. Willie) Richards and their children, Aasta and Ingrid; his father, Ron Lang of Woodbury; 3 siblings, Paul (Terri) Lang of Edina and children, Hunter and Rachel; John (Susan) Lang of Fair Fax Station, VA and children, Elizabeth and Andrew and Maria (Paul) Kramer of Woodbury and children, Lauren and Maya and 2 sisters-n-law, Kari Schamber of Maple Grove and Judy Hinrichs of Red Wing. He was preceded in death by his mother, Iva and grandmother “Grandma-Great” Annette Ogle.
A visitation will be held from 3-6 p.m. Sunday, September 29, 2024, at Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel, Red Wing.
