Phyllis LaVonne Hendrickson passed away peacefully August 30. Born November 23, 1923 in Minneapolis to Swedish parents George Johnson and Ethel Larson. Graduated from Minneapolis South High in 1941. Played violin in the orchestra but preferred piano! Worked as a Legal Secretary for NW Life Insurance. Volunteered for the war effort for 2 years before joining the Navy in 1944. Stationed in San Francisco. Marched with the Navy’s Wave Singing Platoon in the New York Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade. Married her highschool sweetheart Winton Hendrickson in 1946. Moved to Red Wing in 1956. Active in the Methodist Church. Started her golf career at age 32 and became RW Club champ 10 times. She enjoyed her Bridge clubs, knitting, gardening, baking, making jams, hosting Swedish Christmas dinner but most of all her family. She is survived by her 4 children, Stephen Hendrickson, Seal Beach, CA., William (Rhonda) Hendrickson, Minnetonka; Peter (Martha) Hendrickson, Red Wing; Susan (Paul) Hendrickson-Schurke, Ely, MN., 12 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren (with one on the way), nieces, nephews, and sister-in-law Jordis Wolf, Lakeville. Preceded in death by her parents, husband, Winton and sisters Shirley and Dorothy.
A private family service will be held. Burial with military honors will be at the Oakwood Cemetery in Red Wing. Arrangements by the Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodleson-Mahn Chapel.
