Phyllis Rose Ann Powers passed peacefully September 9, 2026, at Preferred Senior Living, Ellsworth, WI with family at her side. She was 101 years old.
Rose Ann was born to J. Orval and Gladys (Larson) Young in Leon Township, Goodhue County, Minnesota on March 28, 1925. The first of six children.
Baptized and confirmed at Spring Garden Lutheran Church near Cannon Falls, MN. She graduated from Cannon Falls High School as the valedictorian of the 1943 class. She boarded with friends in town to attend high school. Rose Ann then completed the registered nurses training at St. John's Hospital in Red Wing. She served as a cadet nurse during WWII. Rose Ann married Lewis Powers on May 10, 1947. They raised 8 children on their dairy farm in rural Maiden Rock. Bounty from the farm, garden and orchard were carefully harvested and stored to feed the family. Homemade bread and cinnamon rolls were always in abundance. Nieces and nephews were always welcome to share the food and the work. Rose Ann used her nursing skills in many ways. She was employed by hospitals, clinics, nursing homes, and Pierce County Public Health, retiring in March of 1990. She also cared for family members in her home. She shared her talents, teaching baking, sewing, and knitting to local 4-H members. Lewis and Rose Ann were known for visiting their neighbors and the local nursing homes to share songs, compassion, and the word of God. Rose Ann faithfully attended and contributed to the Hartland United Methodist Church until its closing in 2013. She then joined the Eidsvold Lutheran Church nearby. Faith was important in her life, and she loved to share it and prayed for many. She quilted with the Merry Martha Quilters at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Red Wing, accompanying her daughters when she was able. She sang alto in the Pierce County Ecumenical Choir, but only if she had a daughter on each side singing with her. She loved her family, and attended many of the games and concerts the kids were involved in.
Rose Ann’s last gift was to donate her body for research with the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN.
She is survived by five children, Nancy Olkjer, Brenda (Tim) Singer, Rita (Jon) Anderson, Leo Powers and Amy Powers; brothers, Lowell (Judy) Young and Rick (Sandy) Beckman; grandchildren, Debbie (JD) Dahl, Beth (Joe) Silva, Ray Omsberg, Lonnie (Shelly Aslakson) Larson, Stephanie (Korey) Green, Kathy (Aaron) Powers-Johnson, Candace Powers, Dan Powers, Liesl Bailey, Jesse (Stephanie) Singer, Sam Singer, Molly (Erik) Jensen, Noah (Samantha) Singer, Adam (Liz) Anderson, Laura (Adam) Hicks, Teresa (Jeff) Anderson, Caleb Powers, Joshua (Mikayla Onken) Powers, Isaac Powers, Andrew Powers and Jacob (Katie Riley) Powers; 32 great-grandchildren; 14 great- great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Shirley Powers; daughter-in-law, Carol Omsberg; many nieces, nephews, other family and friends.
