Phyllis Marie Schutz, 93, of Pine Island, died Wednesday, March 4, 2026, at the Pine Haven Care Center in Pine Island.
She was born October 17, 1932 in Wasioija Township to William and Theresa (Napp) Dohrmann. She was a graduate of Pine Island High School. On July 1, 1950 she was united in marriage to Donavon Schutz and together they raised 2 daughters. In 1963, Don and Phyllis took ownership of the family farm which they ran for the next 40 years. Phyllis was long-time member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Pine Island.
Phyllis worked various jobs in the community, but she was always happiest on the farm. She had a green thumb and was known to work miracles with ailing house plants. She was also a skilled embroiderer. She was soft-spoken and quietly showered love and care on those dear to her. She enjoyed baking bread and often put together care packages full of home-made goodies to share with her grandsons at college or those in need of extra love at the holidays. She loved mother nature and America and proudly flew the U.S. flag over the farm.
She will be missed by her daughters, Katherine (Joe) Miller of Cottage Grove and Margaret Schutz of St. Paul; 2 grandsons, Craig (Jennifer) Miller of Plymouth and Curt (Ashley) Miller of Farmington; one great-granddaughter, Ella; as well as many nieces and nephews, other family and friends.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Don; siblings, Gladys Hopkins, June Shanks, William Dohrmann, Robert Dohrmann, Adeline Schletly and Royce Dohrmann; and her parents.
A memorial service will be 11 a.m., Thursday, April 16, 2026 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Pine Island with Rev. Jim Scaife officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at church. Burial at the Pine Island Cemetery. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.mahnfamilyfuneralhome.com
