Raymond Thomas Howe

Raymond Thomas Howe, age 77, of Red Wing, passed away peacefully at home Thursday, October 26, 2023.

Among the exciting causes in Ray’s life were Eugene McCarthy’s election campaigns, publishing McCarthy’s several books, and being a congressional aide.

In a wide-ranging career, he later worked for IBM selling computers to farmers; was a freelancer for the Republican Eagle and other newspapers; wrote articles for Whole Earth Press in the 70's; was a private investigator for a Rochester law firm; and a photographer for the National Geographic.

Ray also had his own book publishing business, Lone Oak Press, in which he aided hundreds of authors in getting their books into print. Ray’s blog Hans Howe shared information and poetry as he had a soft spot for Minnesota poets. Ray will be so greatly missed by us all.

Preceded in death by parents Raymond and Marion (Carlson) Howe, and survived by sister Marion Austin, brother Paul Howe (Diane Cromer), niece Ruth (James) Bartholomew, nephews Eric Jay Christensen, Darin Austin (Robyn Shepherd) and Mark Austin (Angela), grand-nephew Calvin Bartholomew, and special friend Sue Lawler.
