Hammes will be at 11am on Tuesday, July 18, 2006, at Ss. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, Mazeppa with Father Robert G. Meyer officiating. Music will be provided by Nancy Whetstone and the church choir. Active casketbearers will be his grandchildren: Ryan Meyer, Sarah Meyer, Courtney Hammes, and Stephanie Hammes. Honorary casketbearer will be his great grandson, Dalton O?Reilly. Following the service, Richard will be cremated and a graveside service for interment on his cremains will be at 11am on Wednesday, July 19, 2006 at Ss. Peter & Paul Catholic Church Cemetery in Mazeppa. Richard C. Hammes, age 75, of Mazeppa died on Friday, July 14, 2006 at St. Mary?s Hospital in Rochester. He was born on August 25, 1930 in Chester Township, Wabasha County, Minnesota to Frank and Marie (Hofschulte) Hammes. He attended school in Mazeppa and entered the U. S. Army in 1948. He served in Germany as a mechanic and was honorably discharged in 1954. On June 28, 1952 Richard was married to Pauline Kundert at Mazeppa. The couple lived in Mazeppa following their marriage where Richard worked for Valley Motors and Implement. In 1962 he worked in Rochester as a carpenter until 1968. They purchased and operated Hammes OK Hardware in Mazeppa from 1969 until retiring in 1986. Richard was a past city councilman and the past city mayor of Mazeppa. He was also a member of Ss. Peter & Paul Catholic Church and enjoyed baking, gardening and woodworking.Richard is survived by his wife, Pauline, of Zumbrota, MN; one son, Michael (LaVon) Hammes, of Mazeppa, MN; one daughter, Patricia (Dennis) Meyer, of Wisconsin Rapids, WI; four grandchildren: Ryan and Sarah Meyer, Courtney and Stephanie Hammes; one great grandson, Dalton O?Reily; two sisters: Mary Scott, of Mazeppa, MN and Mary Ann (Harlow) Wilke, of Louisville, CO. His parents, five brothers and two sisters preceded him in death.
