Richard J. Heesch, 85, of Houston, Minnesota, passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday, December 25, 2025, surrounded by the love of his family. Richard was born on September 2, 1940, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, to Jerome and Gertrude (Millard) Heesch. After high school, he proudly served in the United States Navy. Following his time in the Navy, Richard spent time traveling throughout the United States. During this period, he boxed in the Golden Gloves and participated in missionary work. Richard built a long and successful career in the optical industry, working on both regional and national levels. Richard met his wife, Gwendolyn Halverson, in Minnesota while they were both working for Pearle Vision. They were united in marriage on September 6, 1980 welcoming two children. Together they opened optical stores in Colorado Springs during the 1980s. In 2018, Gwen and Richard moved to Houston, Minnesota, to be closer to their grandchildren, whom Richard loved dearly. He found great joy in spending time with his family, especially playing with his grandchildren, as well as camping and hiking together at Frontenac State Park.

Richard is survived by his two children, Ryan (Annalee) Heesch and Amber (Chris) Kildahl; four grandchildren, Easton, Savannah, Emmalyn, and Matthew; his sister, Grace (Rod) Garrison; his brother, Jack Heesch; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Gwendolyn; his parents; his brothers, Bob Heesch and Tom (Cathy) Heesch; his sister-in-law, Paula Heesch.

A private family service will be held at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Hay Creek, with Reverend Lowell Sorenson officiating. Burial will take place in the Immanuel Lutheran Church Cemetery. Memorials are preferred to Frontenac State Park, The Parks and Trails Council of Minnesota, or Immanuel Lutheran Church.
