Obituary

Richard George Holst was born July 14th, 1965 to parents William “Bill” Holst Jr. and Helen Holst in Diamond Bluff, Wi. He attended Prescott School District and graduated with the class of 1982. His upbringing on the family farm shaped his appreciation for the simple things: hunting, fishing, and togetherness with his family. HIs free and easy spirit will be missed by all who knew him.

Richard was a true creative who loved to craft things from ideation to completion. Whether it be a sophisticated masonry job (for which he was well known) to a detailed, meticulous patchwork quilt - all sewn exclusively by hand - Richard was a true type B. He was also a gifted writer and expressionist. He authored and published a 500+ page fantasy novel titled, “Finding A New Hand.” A true nod to his imaginative spirit and his marveling of Norse mythology.

He loved to be the life of the party and the loudest in the room, and often succeeded at both! As the youngest of six brothers it was only fitting. He enjoyed a busy social life shooting pool, bartending in Bay City proper, and was once referred to as a “celebrity bartender,” a title he surely reveled in. A Saturday night hated to see him coming!

The only thing bigger than his boisterous presence was his heart. He was quite literally known for giving the shirt off his back. He deeply loved kids, dogs, his family & friends, and a good underdog story. His “tough guy” persona melted away when he told his family “I love you.” Something we will all miss hearing from our favorite loud uncle.

He lived his truth, authentically and passionately, all the days of his life.

Richard is survived by four brothers; William “Bill” Holst III (Nancy), Neal (Norma) Holst, Morris (Leah) Holst, and Jeffrey (Dodie) Holst, his former spouse Jeanine, many nieces and nephews, and a slew of friends whom he also thought of as family. He is preceded in death by his parents, William “Bill” Holst Jr. and Helen Holst, whom he dearly missed, his oldest brother Michael Holst, and many beloved soul dogs.

In his honor, live each day a bit more boldly, a bit more loudly, and filled with the people and things you love.

The family will gather privately to remember Richard.
