Richard "Rick" Dean Hamann

Richard Dean Hamann, affectionately known as "Shaggy," age 51, of Red Wing, passed away unexpectedly from a sudden heart attack on Monday, July 20th.

Rick was the youngest son of Don and Mary Hamann. He loved growing up on the farm in Cannon Falls with his two brothers, sister, and the many cousins who filled his childhood with adventure.

Rick graduated from Cannon Falls High School in 1993 and began working at Lambert Construction. Rick's hands built beautiful things, and his work reflected the talent and dedication he brought to everything he did.

More than anything, however, Rick will be remembered for his selflessness and his truly golden heart. He was the person who would quietly step in whenever someone needed help, often before they even had to ask. He gave his time, his talents, and his friendship freely, never expecting recognition or anything in return. Rick loved deeply, remained fiercely loyal to the people he cared about, and made those around him feel protected, supported, and never alone.

Rick's life was defined by his love for Heather, his wife of 20 years and the love of his life for 28 years, his deep and abiding friendships, and the craftsmanship with which he infused his life. Rick knew what was important in life and for him it was Heather and being the best man he could be. Their quiet evenings watching the birds and sunsets from their deck brought peace and joy to them both and became some of their most treasured moments.

Rick is survived by his beloved wife, Heather (Cherry) Hamann; their fur babies, Dax, Maui, and Doodles; his siblings, Rob (Kim) Hamann, Kathy (Tom) Goldman, and Scott (Tracy) Hamann; several nieces and nephews; his cousins; and an incredible number of deep and true friends who are devastated by this loss. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mary and Don Hamann.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 15, 2026, at Rick and Heather's home.

Memorials are preferred in lieu of flowers.

Rick's hands built beautiful things, but his greatest work was the life he built with those he loved. We will honor his memory by living with the same kindness, integrity, generosity, and golden heart that defined this good, good man.
